Youth Foundation Gives Back with Special Olympics Indiana and Finish Line Boys & Girls Club

Last month, nearly 250 Finish Line volunteers attended our sixth annual Special Olympics Indiana Games in Terre Haute. From the Unified Relay to bocce to our employees who worked the Finish Line pop up store, our team delivered the Epic Finish.

In response to statistics showing that as many as half of all Special Olympic athletes may be wearing improper or ill-fitting footwear, the Youth Foundation with the help of several store employees fitted, sized and provided a new pair of shoes to nearly 1,200 athletes who completed three stations in Healthy Athletes.

You can watch our friend Kevin go through our shoe tent to get a new pair of shoes here. This is the largest shoe giveaway ever for Indiana athletes and our team worked hard all day Friday and Saturday to ensure all athletes had an opportunity to get new shoes.

Needless to say, the Healthy Athletes tents and Finish Line pop up store were extremely busy all weekend. It took a team effort from many employees spanning multiple departments, Youth Foundation President Marty Posch took a moment out of the day to thank everyone in this  “Thank You” video.

“It was very humbling to be a part of a great event in the shoe giveaway. The faces on the athletes were priceless,” said District Manager George Jordan.

Along with George’s leadership, District Manager in Training Alex Abud and Castleton Square Mall Co-manager Brandon Murray played a critical role in ensuring the success of the giveaway throughout the weekend.

“My experience was awesome. It was great reconnecting with athletes from past years. What I will remember the most is seeing the smiles on their faces when they were fitted for a new pair of sneakers,” said Abud.

Last week, we hosted our second annual Fun in the Sun at the Finish Line Boys & Girls Club! We served hot dogs, snacks, snow cones and popcorn. Our volunteers helped the kids play carnival styles games and run through inflatables to celebrate the end of summer before the kids go back to school.

We also surprised 300+ kids with string bags generously donated by Nike. Each kid took a string bag home filled with school supplies donated by Finish Line employees. We are thankful for our generous employees who donated to provide the school supplies and proud to partner with Boys & Girls Club to get the kids ready for school!
