There’s More Jordan to “Black Cement” Than the Air Jordan 3
When you hear “Black Cement,” surely the iconic Air Jordan 3 is the first sneaker to pop into your head. However, it’s far from the only sneaker, and not even the only Jordan silhouette to have donned the color scheme. In anticipation of the “Black Cement” Jordan Son of Mars Low dropping tomorrow, we’ve gathered some of our favorite looks of the colorway atop Jordan silhouettes of all kinds.
Jordan CP3.III Tribute “Black Cement”
Of any signature sneaker to pay respect to the Air Jordan 3, it should be the third. Jordan Brand took advantage of the connection, releasing several CP3.III Tribute colorways. Each one was linked to an original colorway of the Air Jordan 3, one of Chris Paul’s favorites from the signature line. With elements taken from the third Air Jordan, the CP3.III Tribute was a slam dunk, especially the “Black Cement” edition with red eyelets, black back tab, and elephant print on the heel.
Jordan Flight Club 90s “Black Cement”
Here, we have another silhouette that takes more than just the colorway from the Air Jordan 3. In fact, the Jordan Flight Club 90s directly transplants the Jordan 3 tongue and sole onto an upper more akin to the Air Jordan 5. To the blind eye, there may be a lack of elephant print, but the 3M reflective print says otherwise, giving this “Black Cement” makeup the whole package.
Air Jordan 19 Low “Black Cement”
When a signature sneaker sixteen pairs down the line incorporates elements of an original colorway, you know the scheme is timeless. On this Air Jordan 19 Low, the “Black Cement” makeup gets an updated look, with a black suede upper and not much pointing out the connection between this sneaker and the Air Jordan 3 besides the elephant print toecap.
Air Jordan 1 Low Phat “Black Cement”
Nothing gets more classic than the Air Jordan 1, and putting cues from the “Black Cement” Air Jordan III on the low-top version takes the 1 to a whole new level. Decked out with black leather, elephant print on both ends, and a grey tongue with red lining, this shoe rocks the “Black Cement” look in its entirety.
Nike Zoom Vapor AJ3 “Black Cement”
This sneaker may reside more under the Nike umbrella, but it incorporates elements of the Air Jordan 3 so seamlessly that we had to include it here. The details are on point, not just with elephant print panels and a grey leather tongue, but also with the tumbled grain of the black leather upper. The Zoom Vapor AJ3 does absolute justice to Roger Federer’s admiration of MJ.
This list proves that, indeed, you can take the colorway off a sneaker and still make it look good. Be it on the CP3.III or the Jordan 1 Low, there’s just something about that “Black Cement” colorway that captures the attention of all. And that’s why we’re excited to see yet another sneaker don the elephant print in the Jordan Son of Mars Low.
