Scottie Pippen: In Retrospect
We all know how the story went for the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s as they won 6 championships on the back of Michael Jordan. There’s no debate that Jordan is the greatest NBA player ever, and the chance of the Bulls winning any of those 6 titles without him would completely go away had he not been on that squad. That debate has been beaten to a pulp. This discussion today is in regards to his right hand man, the guy who stood slightly outside of the spotlight, Scottie Pippen. Yeah, the Bulls were blessed to have Michael Jordan, but they were almost as equally blessed to have Scottie.
On the offensive end, Pippen was an efficient scorer, selectively choosing high percentage shots and also an adept passer, especially for a player of his size. In the rebounding category, he was among the league leaders at his position, maximizing the number of his team’s possessions. Defensively, Coach Phil Jackson described Pippen as a “one-man wrecking crew” when attesting to his ability to defend. Clearly a superstar among his contemporaries, Nike took notice and chose to award Scottie with his own signature sneaker: the Nike Air Pippen. Worn during his days on the Chicago Bulls, this model was a popular sneaker for many who were also fans of the Air Jordan line. Due to the popularity of this shoe and the retro aspect in general, the brand behind the swoosh has decided to bring back this model and they’ll soon be dropping for sneakerheads and Pippen fans alike to add to their collections.
