NFL Combine Wrap Up
Its a trying time between February and August as we have to deal with football being on the backburner, so naturally we cling to whatever the league has to offer in the meantime. The NFL Combine just passed, so if you happened to miss the action in Indianapolis, here’s a quick recap of the major events that took place.
Manti Te’o Falters
Coming off of the whirlwind that Manti Te’o had endured this past football season, we were all looking to see Te’o put it behind him and show up at the Combine. Unfortunately, his performance was less than impressive as he most likely hindered his draft stock even more.
Marquise Goodwin Crowned 40-Yard Dash Champion
The main draw of the NFL Combine is to see how fast the athletes run in the 40-yard dash, and with adidas offering a contract to the fastest guy, even more eyes were on the event. Marquise Goodwin took the crown this year running it in 4.27 seconds, solidifying an endorsement contract with adidas and boosting his draft stock.
Margus Hunt Shows Out
Fresh out of SMU (and out of left field), Margus Hunt showed up at the NFL Combine running the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds and bench pressing 225lbs 38 times, and showing up the competition, all while being 6’8″.
Luke Joeckel Emerges
With no surefire quarterback prospect in this draft class and the team with the top pick not needing a signal-caller, Luke Joeckel performed up to expectations and solidified his position as the projected first draft pick.
Geno Smith Maintains Position
While there’s no Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin this season, the closest thing to it is Geno Smith and he’s been pegged as the top quarterback prospect this year. After his performance at the NFL Combine, he was able to maintain his ranking among his contemporaries, remaining the best bet at quarterback.
As you may know, Under Armour was the big sponsor of the event, showcasing some of their new gear for the players and all athletes alike. If you thought the UA gear was as sick as we did, you can get some of the Combine gear at Finishline.com.
